This one is on selling things in your online business.

I know a few folks who sell stuff online, some folks are really good at it and produce top notch quality product, others, not-so-much.

Here's a few observations, agree or disagree at your leisure:

For starters, if you are going to join communities to sell your product, a really good idea would be to not {I repeat NOT} use said community as your own personal journal. If you're there to sell a product then sell the FUCKING product, don't mention a happy holiday {unless it's a holiday sale in which case that's different} don't prattle on about what's going on in your personal life, and for Christ's sake, don't mention that you either a} have children, or b} are saving up for their college funds.

That's just fucking dirty.

If I wanted your little spawn to go to school, I'd be sending money directly to their college fund, seeing as how I honestly couldn't care less, don't pimp your kids out online to perfect strangers for sympathy purchases. It's not only smarmy, it's mildly idiotic.

I really didn't like it when that moron who was on "On the Lot" did it for sympathy votes, and guess what? I really don't like it now.

Secondly: If you have a product, and a company, you really shouldn't be 'pimping' out your company, selling yes, but pimping... not-so-much. What I mean by this is simple, treat your business like a child. You would honestly get annoyed if that cousin of yours who has a kid shows pictures of their children to anyone and everyone around them and even to perfect strangers... so why then, do you think it's acceptable for you to hock your pictures of your products to anyone and everyone you meet?

It's not. Quite frankly because after awhile, people just start to tune that shit out.

Eventually, it just becomes spam that people ignore and move on from.

There's this method of advertising that Minx Clothing used to use, it's called word-of-mouth you should probably look it up.*

Thirdly: This one is for the new people who weren't paying attention to the first two rules, if your company has a bad reputation, don't change the name of the company. Because that's stupid. The underlying problems as to why your company got the bad reputation is still there. Either change the way you do business {IE: stop making yourself look like an idiot to the consumers} or shut down your business. Guess what? The problem isn't with the name of your company. That problem lies... elsewhere.

Here's the thing. My vote is still up in the air and will remain so for quite some time.

I've mentioned this on someone else's LJ and I think it bears repeating here.

I'm a pretty big Liberal supporter, however, they just have too much baggage. There's the sponsorship scandal, there's the fact that Iggy has apparently lost his huge eyebrowed mind and wants to repatriate Omar Khadr. Look, I'm all for getting Canadian citizens back into the country, if, they're stuck in a foreign country due to stupidity that is not their fault. {like the recent problem with the passport}

On the other hand, if they lob grenades at our allies in acts of terror... Let the little bastard rot, I care not how old he was at the time, he's lucky we don't export him to Texas for trial.

As for the Cons, they're WAY too secretive. If I ask a politician a straight question I expect a straight answer. Not a "Well the Liberals had 13 years before us to do it" answer, because well, the Liberals haven't been in control of the country for the last 3 years. At some point, you have to start taking responsibility for what's going on in the country RIGHT NOW.

Plus, they've photocopied the Republican playbook from down in the 'States and are running it play-by-play. Blame everyone else, use God as a crutch to get the old person vote, and go after all the oil that you can horde. And oh yeah, FUCK the environment.

The NDP?

HA. Don't get me started on that Pro-Union Communist horseshit collective. For all the people who have a problem with the current Conservative government that voted NDP, you only have yourselves to blame. I'm not kidding. You helped split the vote that could have nudged the Cons out of power.

Plus, as much as I think the Con leader is a shifty-eyed psycho, I only trust Jack Layton about as far as I can comfortably spit a live rat. I honestly can't see why anyone would trust him considering he sold out the country just to get his wife a job. Hell, I want to get a government grant to run an experiment to see if Layton would sell his grandmother to get a seat in the house of commons {I have more than a fair shot at success}.

So what does that leave? Green? The "no shit, we should all be doing our part for the environment by now anyway" party, Communist? {see Jack Layton} or... what again?

I just wish that there were a slightly center-ish party that just went in, did it's job with regards to balancing the budget, and then went home. Fiscal responsibility is what I want, and preferably if this new and un-announced party could have a complete and utter hatred for unions that would just be gravy on the top.

To all my American friends:

This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the U.S. Department of Energy.

I then took a shower in the clean water provided by a municipal water utility.

After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC-regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration determined the weather was going to be like, using satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

I watched this while eating my breakfast of U.S. Department of Agriculture-inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

At the appropriate time, as regulated by the U.S. Congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the U.S. Naval Observatory, I get into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration-approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal Departments of Transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issued by the Federal Reserve Bank.

On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the U.S. Postal Service and drop the kids off at the public school.

After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health administration, enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and Fire Marshal's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all its valuables thanks to the local police department.

Feels like I was laying in the Dentist chair for 2 hours and had GSP dance a jig on the left side of my face.

Seeing as how my Wisdom teeth were fucked up, IE the roots grew not straight, but curved, the dentist had to go at it with a scalpel, an air powered drill type thing, and what looked like a commonly used set of pliers in order to get the last chunk out.
